Bringing a fresh clash of classic Madchester beats, kaleidoscopic reverbs and beefy breakdowns, wacky northern outfit Flesh are making some serious vibrations. The four-piece from Fallowfield are on the up in more ways than one.
Flesh are part of a new breed of young and ballsy UK artists pioneering a grungy grassroots renaissance. The band have engineered a unique tangent of sound that has made a lasting impression on music fans in the north west – mates Hazza, Robbie, Cozza and Jon have built a considerable cult following after smashing out their debut headline tour and supporting well established acts PEACE and DARLIA in 2015.
Singles AVIN IT IN IBIZA, W8 4 ME, NOT GNA and VAUXHALL CASANOVA showcase the very real potential behind Flesh’s music. Candid, smutty lyrics build on huge sounds and give these wicked tunes traction of the infectious kind.
These vintage sportswear clad Manc lads are heading up a perverse subculture laced with self-corruption and angst. Currently working on a ‘flaccid house’ flavour that is sure to bring a trip-infused sentiment to their live performances – and a studio album to boot – the future looks pretty fuckin’ rosey.
New single GON N DUN – set for release on the band’s own, waggishly named, label ‘sNotpop Records’ – doesn’t let up. Ridiculous riffs and abrasive vocals dominate the track that pulls in everything that Flesh are about. The band themselves reckon they’ve ‘nailed’ their sound with this one and – in fairness – it is a bit of a banger!
This filthy full on feel, that thrives off an independent approach to music, is disturbingly charming. The band’s vids hook up perfectly with the simmering sense of awkward pleasure that splurges from their tracks – bringing it to the boil.
Heaving tones of hedonism and full-frontal vulgarity should not detract from the genuine quality of Flesh’s sound, however. These are four accomplished musicians with something to prove on the UK scene, their raucous tunes a testament to their trade.
Get ready for Flesh to hit some big venues in the coming months. Backed by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens as ‘…pretty aggy and pretty brilliant’ – their live shows are brash, boisterous and ‘…ooze urchin grittiness’ (Manchester Evening News).
The band are kicking off the year as they mean to go on, announcing headline gigs at Sound Control and The Sugar Mill. You can also catch them supporting Californian band together PANGEA through February – as part of NME’s Awards Tour – at Moth Club, The Hope and Ruin and King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut to name a few.
All sure to have fans licking their lips.
So, if you’re on the look out for some raw new music to sink your teeth into, you’re going to want to check out Flesh. Championed by a ton of industry tastemakers and fellow artists – expect plenty more weird and wonderful noises from the Flesh camp in the coming months.
